There’s something about a summer engagement session in St. Charles that feels effortlessly romantic—especially when it unfolds in layers. We started tucked away in a forest preserve, surrounded by soft light and tall greens, before making our way to the St. Charles Riverwalk where the energy shifted completely. The river, the movement, the glow of downtown… and then, their boat waiting for them at the dock.

We began the session at Fabyan Forest Preserve, where everything felt calm and unhurried. This is always my favorite way to start—giving couples space to settle in, to move naturally, and to forget the camera is even there. The soft greens, filtered light, and quiet trails created the kind of setting that doesn’t compete for attention—it simply lets the connection take the lead. These are the moments that feel the most like them. The glowy, golden light of the sunset is what engagement session dreams are made of!

One of the most personal parts of this session was incorporating their boat along the river. It added a layer that felt entirely their own—something meaningful, not staged.
